Enabling the Developer Console for Dragon Age 2

  1. If you do not already have a short cut for DragonAge2.exe on the desktop, create one. Find the location of your DragonAge2.exe file:
    • Typically you should find it in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Dragon Age 2\bin_ship or C:\Program Files\Dragon Age 2\bin_ship\DragonAge2.exe
    • For Steam you should find it in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\dragon age ii\bin_ship\
  2. Right click on the DragonAge2 file, and select "Create Short Cut" or "Desktop (create short cut)."
  3. Right click on the short cut on the desktop and select "Properties". Go to the "Target" box. At the end of the line in the "Target" box add a space and type in -enabledeveloperconsole (see image below).
  4. Test to see if you did everything correctly. Launch the game from the short cut. Start a game, and press the ~ key (do not hold the shift key) to start the console. Then type in a command such as runscript zz_dae_debug and then press the enter key. (Note that everything typed into the console will not be visible. Also, the game will freeze once the ~ key is pressed, and will only unfreeze once the enter key is pressed.)
Note: While the developer console is active, your profile will not update to the BioWare website. If you want your profile to update again, you must remove the -enabledeveloperconsole from the Dragon Age 2 short cut.
